My 1984 Capri 25 has about a ~ 1/4" wobble/clearance in the rudder. Should I worry about this? The metal rudder post itself is solid, so it is the boats fiberglass sleeve which has apparently worn over the years. There does not appear to be any bearings in the sleeve has anyone come up with a way to reduce the clearance?
I have an article on the subject that came from the "Mainsheet" magazine I think. It has good information. I will try to insert the .pdf file here, but do not know if it will work. You can call me at 864-868-3339 and arrange to obtain a copy.
I bought the graphite/epoxy fix kit from Catalina direct. It worked like a charm. It was nerve wracking drilling holes in the fiberglass sleeve you note, but the end result is no more wobbly rudder.
