Any tips on closing the gap between panels in the hatch?

All the best,

Carl

Anyone have any thoughts on this? We've been having a good bit of rain lately, and I realized today that the gaps here are the source of the water that's getting in.

If you have a pop top enclosure, then the enclosure should cover the gaps at the upper corners of the hatch.

I had a similar problem with my C25. It also had little gaps at the upper corners of the hatch, and mud daubers got inside while I was away from the boat. I made a trapezoid shaped Sunbrella cover that covered the entire hatch. I left an extra flap of fabric, 5-6" long across the top. My boat had snaps set in the frame of the hatch on each side. I installed snaps in the cover. Then I snapped it over the hatch, and dropped the extra flap of fabric over the top of the hatchboards. Then I pulled the hatch shut. The cover kept out the mud daubers and water. Perhaps that will work on a C250.

I don't have any ideas on closing the gap but Catalina Direct has a canvas "companion way cover" that snaps on around the companionway similar to how/where a pop top enclosure would snap. In fact it seemed to me that one came with my boat new in 2003 with the "canvas" package. Sure enough, just found it in storage in the garage with the pop top. Have never used either but haven't had a problem with rain getting in. The boat is in a slip all summer and in storage otherwise.
A companion way cover might not be practical other than when the boat is not in use but I do see quite a few of the boats in the local marina that have one snapped on when the owner leaves. Others just secure a tarp tent over the boom covering the companionway.
