I need to rewire. PO's hacked and chopped into the old wiring so much that it is a rats nest and things where starting to come loose last year while sailing. I want to relocate the switch panel along with the battery switch, bilge switch and amp meter. I want to relocate from the stock location behind the sink to someplace that's easy to get to, but out of the way. Looking for ideas others have done.
For starters, in our Technical Tips (menu at left), look up Home Improvement, Magic Dragon, and Snickerdoodle.

Try not to speak ill of the PO, Catalina buried a LOT of wiring in the deck seam and any rewiring requires either new conduit and all new wire A to B or a lot of splicing and tapping. Get some nice terminal strips and a buss bar or two and execute your own rewire, lots of us have and it always turns out well. One great thing is the chance to relocate switches and upgrade switch panels. Enjoy.
And please don't forget those fuses - within a few inches of the positive battery terminal. And fuses are safer than electromechanical circuit breakers. These tend to stick after a few years and have caused more than one boat to catch fire. 12VDC won't give you a shock but it's got a lot of power nonetheless and a shorted battery can do a lot of damage.

True! I was on another owner's C-25 out on the Pacific, about 10 miles from any port, with smoke pouring out of the galley area and the "dumpster" (sail locker)--from the 12V wiring. Not a comfortable feeling.
