I've never had any woodworking training, and I don't have any special woodworking tools. I used pegs, some biscuits ('cut the slots with a dremel tool), and lots of sanding. I read a lot, and plan a lot. It helps to go over the building in your head, sleep on it, and refine your plan as you go. The old carpenters' rule of "measure twice, cut once" is a good one ... I probably take that to extremes.
There are a TON of good ideas on this Forum. You can't put a price tag on the wealth of knowledge found here, and many times it's the novices who can come up with new and innovative ways of doing things. I would encourage anyone who is sitting on the fence about joining the Association to cough up the mere $22 it takes to be a full-fledged member ... it's well worth it!
