Last weekend, our club hosted the Vanguard 15 National Championship Regatta at our lake. I was on the chase/rescue/photography boat, assisting the official chase boats when needed. V15's are very fast, nimble 2-person boats (think Laser on steroids big time). Main and jib, no spinnaker or trapeze. We had 30 boats registered. Saturday started out slightly overcast but very breezy. Constant white caps and gusts were clocked at 30 plus. Lots of boats capsized. Those things turtle fast! Only 2 races before lunch when they brought everyone in because of the heave winds. They went back out about 3:30, 20 boats this time, and got in 4 more races. Winds still heavy, but manageable. Sunday, beautifully sunny and breezy, saw 4 more races for 10 total. 29 were on the line Sunday. As much as I might want to buy one, they are much too athletic for me. More of a college age to upper 20's boat, and plan on getting very wet!
