Spent the past weekend racing in the J24 regatta in Corpus Christi. We took our club boat down from Belton, and had a great time. Don't ask how we did in the race, but I'll say that we learned a lot and had a ton of fun! That's me on the foredeck.
But to top it all off, this was waiting for me when I got home.
It goes on Friday for the club race on Saturday. Really excited to see the difference from my 30 year old main.
Great photo, Tim! I'm sitting in the hotel room at this moment, in Seabrook, TX (Houston). First race of the C22 Nationals starts at 12:55, 4 days 8 races planned. Well, actually, the first race for the spinnaker guys starts in about 5 minutes, but that's separate from the competition for the National Trophies. We'll be heading to the yacht club in about 1 hour to get ready. Racing will be in Galveston Bay. The practice race yesterday was about 3 miles out in the bay. took us about 40 minutes to motor/sail to the start line, so we'll be leaving the dock about 11:00. Based on weather forcasts, looks like we're going to get wet, especially Wed. and Thurs.
Good luck David, and enjoy Kemah! I've sailed Clear Lake, but not the bay. We are planning to head there in September for the next J24 regatta. Before that though, the wife and I will spend some time in Galveston this summer.
Yesterday avg winds were 12-13 with gusts to 17. Also, very choppy. Definitely not like lake sailing. Lots of shallows in Clear Lake. Keel touched bottom or hit something 3 times first day. Then w learned to not go near the west side of the lake.

The deepest part of the lake is along the north side and the east end.
There is an unmarked reef right in the middle of the lake just slightly east of the center. Sometimes there are small PVC plumbing pipe sticking up the semi-outline the edges of the reef.
The farther west you go the shallower it gets down to 2 - 3 feet.
