Yes, when attached directly to the stem fitting it did not go to the top of the fore-stay. When I used that sail I always had a tack line on it so I could see under the sail. The tack line was approx. 12"-15" long and the foot of the sail was about even with the top of the bow pulpit. Made it really easy to see under the sail.
