I took my new toy sailing yesterday. It did a good job of showing me where I was but zI couldn't figure out how to get it to show Lat & Long position on the screen. Through a weird set of selections, it would allow for Lat&Long to be displayed but that was a coordinate that required my input.
Not a big problem but it could be if I was trying to depend on this to let the Coasties know where to find the bodies as I was sinking!

Great suggestion. I won an iPad mini in a drawing, and based on these discussions, I upgraded to a 3G with GPS. I bought iNavX, which seems to be popular with the Apple products. I paid $50 for the software, but can download any or all of the NOAA charts. I prefer to use the NOAA charts, rather than the newer vector charts. Looks good so far- the GPS works well without cellular, although I'm going to get a data plan so I can download weather data. I think instant information on thunderstorms will be well worth $15 per month. I haven't really evaluated the readability in sunlight, but the bigger screen is great compared to my little handheld.
