Hey guys,
Just re-entered the sailing world with the purchase of a 1983 C-25, #3696, std/fin. First of many ?s to what appears to be a great bunch of ol’ salts with a plethora of knowledge. Can I fit a pair of G27’s in the factory battery compartment under the starboard settee? The boat had a temporary G24 in a battery box but I didn’t have a tape measure when I surveyed her at point of purchase many miles away from my home port of Grapevine, Texas. There is several inches length difference between groups and it looks like it will be pretty tight. Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

I had two group27 batteries in a 1981 C25, I don't recall having to squeeze them in.

Were they in boxes or just strapped in the compartment? Will the glass compartment withstand acid spills and heat?

I have 2 group 31 batteries in my box. They fit very well but not much room left over. Mine is an 82 with the box under the starboard settee.

I have 2 27s which fit easily. I might have tried 31s, but Walmart didn't carry that size and I was in a hurry.

I don't have sealed battery boxes, and also wonder about what would happen to the fiberglass if a battery leaked or burst.

Wes,
What brand are they and where did you find them?

I picked up mine at the local Walmart. Marine Maxx was the brand, which incidentally was the same brand that the PO had used. The old batteries served every bit of their expected lifespan well.

I think they're a good value for our application.

I believe others like Dave5041 on the forum have had good experiences with regular marine batteries from Walmart.

Thanks again for all the help, crew. Bought me a pair of Everstart 29DCs and am headed out this weekend to install them. Going to charge them with a 10/10 NOCO Genius with the new chip powered circuitry. I'll let you know how it all plays out after I spend some time on her.
