I've never been mentally involved in buying a rug before now. I'd like to have a rug on my boat.

I've been looking around on the Internet, but haven't been able to find any good options for an oriental, persian, or turkish rug for a swing keel with the split level floor.

The starboard side of the cabin sole is 19" wide. It turns out rug sizing starts out at 24" wide.

Does anybody know where to get a less narrow than standard oriental/persian/turkish rug?

we use a runner for the starboard side. Nothing under our pedestal table, and a small rug at the base of the companionway stairs and another in the head. Works well, provides nice coverage and we can mix and match

I think you can use those runners they sell at HD or Lowes that are on a roll and cut to any length you need. If you want a finished edge you will need to use the edge finishing kit they sell also. Some are 19", Some are a little wider so you have to look around.

The C25 that I just purchased came with a rug. It looks like it was one large piece that was cut specifically for the boat. It has cut outs for the stairs and it goes around the benches.

There is a whole cut into it for the peg on the table leg, and it follows the entire contour of the bottom of the boat. That is, it follows the little step down. I think it looks really good, but that could be another option.

Not exactly oriental/persian/Turkish, but there are a few marine carpet companies that will cut a carpet to fit your boat. You send them a paper template of the area. Then they send you carpet with rubber back, trimmed edges and cut-outs. I had my power boat done a few years ago. I think even WM has a similar service.

If you're considering a rug for the boat, I'd recommend one with a chin strap for the windier days.

I just went to a carpet store, looked for a nice but inexpensive neutral carpet 8 ft wide that I liked, bought 2 yds. and installed it myself using a razor blade knife to cut. I lined it up along the starboard settee first and went toward the port side, cutting to fit, allowing for the uneven floor. It doesn't have to be marine carpet. I cut a separate piece for the head area.

my floor gets so dirty and wet after a couple of days (swimming, going ashore and back, etc...) i wonder how disgusting a carpet would become... on bare floor i just have to dust with a little dust pan once in a while and a damp cloth and it's clean as new...

Beware of rugs. Serious slip and fall issue. I bought one from Catalina, but they do not have the old templates... Pita....

Then there is the other issue, which I have encountered on my current vessel. Those runners will adhere to the floor and leave behind a sticky rubbery residue when you try and peel them up for cleaning.

I used indoor/outdoor carpet in medium blue. It doesn't stay wet for long and stays put. I also put snaps along the edges. It is very stable, non-adhesive, and eventually stretched to follow the depression at the galley and the the starboard side.

I looked at Home Depot and Lowe's for the custom length runners, but they were all 24" wide. Other local rug shops did not have anything either. Nothing from online retailers.

Dumb luck - for $15 on eBay I found three runners 19" wide. They were not exactly what I wanted, but I thought it kind of cool that they were made by hand in the US in the 1920s.

I put down some cut-to-size tacky rubber-like webbing beneath each rug which has made them completely nonslip without any adhesive.

Here's a pic when I first put them down. You can see the black rug on the left is a little wider than 19" in spots, so I ended up rearranging them so they are side by side with the black rug on the port side. The third rug is in the head.

I use the damp cloth method.... I also occasionally use simple green spray to keep the boat smelling fresh and clean.....
