I use a livescribe smartpen to sketch out my projects, great little tool. My version has 2gb of data storage for pages and audio.
My HP laptop hard drive took a total dump several weeks ago, it's heavily used. Like the cobbler, I did not have a full and current backup of my drive, but several older backups in various places (external hard drive, on the web, home network etc.) But the data from the smart pen was not up to date. Glum.
I contacted Livescribe in order to download the livescribe desktop to my new hard drive, got the pen connected and downloaded from the pen whatever it had.
EVERYTHING! All of the 112 sketch pages and all of the Audio files it had recorded over the past year plus.
Sounds like a nice product; I've toyed with buying one. I like that Apple made the default state of Time Machine "ON". I need only convince my uninitiated friends to get a Time Capsule for their wireless base and many headaches that find there way back to me are avoided. If they have an external drive, they have current backups. It may not be the most efficient or tunable system, but it is always running in the background.
