Sweet...looks like a great day, glad you shared. Am a little jealous, one boat was "hauled out' the other has its sails stripped and full of Christmas lights for next week's parade, which equals no sailing this weekend. Hate wasting such a beautiful Dec weekend.
I did get in the water yesterday...had to go in after the phone. It is in a waterproof case, but the case doesn't come with a locator, so it's still somewhere at the bottom of my slip.
Last Sunday I participated in a friendly race with 8 other sailboats from surrounding marinas. I sail on the Mississippi River, near the confluence of the Illinois. The winds were out of the south at about 10 knots, perfect for this part of the river. The best part is the high temps were in the low 70's...in St louis...in Dec!!! I met a lot of great people and can't wait until the next 'race'. Sorry I didn't get any pics, but I will have my HD video camera for next year. Haul out is next week. Let the winter projects begin!!!!

Try getting a magnet from Northern Tool or Harbor Freight. I dropped a brand new pair of pliers overboard last year. Went back to the boat the next day with a magnet and found the pliers in about 45 seconds (I new approx. where they fell in).
There are metal components in most cell phones. Doesn't take much with a strong magnet. You might lose your stored info but it most likely won't destroy the phone.
Besides, it's worth a try anyway, all you have to lose is a phone that's already lost. If you find it at least you know it won't fall into the hands of someone else who might eventually find it along the shoreline if the tide drags it out.

If it doesn't, a magnet won't find it. But who knows--he might come up with enough other stuff to fill a toolbox (substantially rusted).
Was able to retrive the phone by slaying the Kracken...the phone was in a LifeProof case which is waterproof to six feet. The phone was sitting about 4' of water for about 22 hours, when I pulled the phone out it was still turned on and functional. When I opened the case there was a drop or two of water near the charging port, but that was it. Phone started to act a little funny so I dumped into a bag of rice to sit for a couple of days. Will let you know how it comes out, but initial thinking it the LifeProof case is worth every penny of it $79.99 price tag.
