I have the mast down to fix windvane at masthead. Thinking while I'm at it put on spinnaker crane. Just hung a block up there when I first started using spinnaker. Probably just order the crane from Catalina Direct. Anybody have suggestions on install?

I installed the masthead crane last year. Still have yet to fly the spinnaker.....

It's easy to install, fits over the top of the masthead and uses the clevis pins that already run through the fitting.

Check your masthead first. On mine there was already a clevis pin setup for hanging the spinnaker halyard block, so a crane wasn't necessary. I just installed a good quality block with a nice swivel up there and it's worked well.

The benefit of the spinnaker crane is that it moves the block forwards of the furler.

Having said that, the crane our on our C250 really does not reach forward enough, we have tangled the spinnaker halyard around the furler several times, really painful!

Our solution is to ensure that the empty spinnaker halyard is drum tight before furling/unfurling the jib.

Our C-25 had hank-on jibs, so I wasn't aware of that benefit. The halyard was still pretty far forward of the forestay, but maybe not enough for roller furling.
