In Shutterfly, you need to select the pic you want so it's in a full-sized frame (not the "light-box", and then copy the "image URL". Then in your post, click the and then paste the URL between the <b>]</b> and the <b>[</b>.
In your signature, you need to type the <b>[ img ]</b> and <b>[ /img ]</b> (without the spaces), and then paste the URL between them.
It's in <b>Format</b> row of buttons above where you type/edit your message. It simply puts two "image tags" into your message, and you can put the image URL between them. You don't get that button when you're creating a Signature--you have to type your own tags as I described (which you can also do in the message box).
