The official high today in Nashville was 109 degrees, hitting a new record two days in a row. Looking forward to heading for the mountains soon.
I just made 2 chess pies for the holidays. If you don't know what a chess pie is, it's a real good, low calory dessert!! Each pie contains 1.5 cups of sugar, a stick of butter, 3 eggs, a bit of vanilla extract, salt and apple cider vinegar. I'm following a recipe by Minnie Pearl.
Melt the butter on medium heat, stir in the sugar til smooth, remove from heat, then add the eggs and other ingredients. Pour into a pie shell and cook. I'll post the specifics if you are interested. My brother does a variation by adding dark chocolate to make a chocolate chess pie.

Hi today in Nashville is supposed to hit 104! Lake is down 3.5 ft from summer pool level, which puts it about half way to winter pool. Not good. We're at our mountain summer home for the weekend, 2000 ft altitude, but it's supposed to hit 101 here too. Ugh! Normally we're 5-10 degrees cooler here than Nashville. Some rain is forecast for the next 2 days. We really need it.

But I'm also aware of the troubles folks in the northeast are having, with high heat and no electricity due to the recent crazy storms there. All in all, we're lucky here. Our hearts go out to you guys, especially to the families of those who lost their lives to the storms. We hope you get power back very soon!
