Heartbeat is a Catalina 25 Tall Rig / Full Keel. #4816
4 internal halyards(main, jib port, jib star, spin); all controls let to the cockpit. Full suits of racing and cruising sails. Race: Kevlar 155, mylar light 155 (soft), 145 dacron #2, 110 7oz dacron #3, and a battenned #4. Main: dacron, 2 full battens, loose foot with a large leach, but meets class rules.* Max size spinnaker - red! Large race sails always rolled. Cruise: Main, 110, J24 kite, and some old stuff: 135, battenned main, another kite. 8hp 4-stroke Tohatsu engine pushes her to a solid 6.3 knots. Spinnaker pole, heavy and light spinnaker sheets, topping lift, downhaul, and tweaks. (All led to the cockpit.) Adustable pole track on the front of the mast for the spinnaker pole. Whisker pole. Non pop-top, so the Lewmar 7s are mounted on the cabintop for halyards, etc. Lewmar two-speed 16s on the sides for the primary sheets. Two sets of genoa blocks, plus spinnaker blocks. Easily change from one headsail to another and then fly the kite offwind. Tuff Luff and dual (kevlar) jib halyards allow for sail changes without going headless. Single line reefing kit. Masthead windvane. 24:1 backstay. Knot meter, depth meter, compass, AM/FM/CD w/good speakers, handheld VHF. Danforth and sand anchors each with 25' of chain. Bimini that covers the cockpit nicely, and a (folded) bimini cover.
Front 1/3 of the hull and keel is faired to a smooth race quality. 2002 'balanced' rudder from Catalina direct. Race quality smooth. New lined gudgeons and pintles. Two coats of fresh VC-17 bottom paint this spring. Barrier coated in 2003. Hull buffed, as it is every year. Major standing rigging refit in 2008.
Trailer: Performance trailer from St Pete (a Catalina supplier) with 8 pads, mast cradle, dual axles, spare tire, and four hydraulic disc brakes tows at 80+. (And stops it.)
Bayview Yacht Club, Detroit, MI (with a boat and mast hoist)
*Possibly the fastest mainsail ever built for a C25. When the sailmaker (UK St. Pete) delivered the sail he claimed such. I did not believe him. I do now.
I am the second owner. Great for club racing, cruising, or single handing. (I have even single handed the kite!)
Heartbeat is ready to sail, and while we are signed up for the DRYA series this year, my kids are a little young to race. I am looking to move down. I probably have forgotten some things here...
With the boat on the trailer we have exceeded 80 MPH. It's stable and sound. Most of the time I tow at the speed limit or 5 below.
>Moving down to what? (I recall GPYC has a J-22 fleet...)
Not sure.
Bayview has a Ultimate 20 fleet that I can sail in. A daysailer may be appropriate for a couple of years, and I like Thistles. A friend has a trimaran that he is very impressed with. I have two teams that have mentioned that if I don't do the DRYA races this year or next I would be welcome back. And then there is this Morgan 27 that is for sale... It's very tempting, but I suspect would have the same problem I have with Heartbeat: the kids are small and I just wouldn't sail it enough.
If course, there are a stack of performance boats out there that would be a ton of fun: Etchells, Melges 24, J-80, J-105, and even a Farr 49 for sale. (Kidding on the Farr - it's so NOT in the budget.)
Who knows? But even if it's a Sea Snark, you can bet I'll be sailing.
Matt
ps - Ok, maybe kidding on the Sea Snark as well - at least a Laser. ;-)

(...and more fun than almost anything for the old man, too!)
Just sold my 1984 C-25. Good luck with your sale. sounds like a great boat. How about getting into a Vanguard 15? We have a new fleet building here. Think Laser on steroids! Two person boat, easy to trailer, main and jib only but still exciting, if you like dingy sailing. Personally, for the same money, I can get a tricked out C22, enjoy fleet racing, and be a lot more comfortable doing it. And enjoy raftups, too. We call them full-moon raft-ups, next one this weekend.
2006 'balanced' rudder from Catalina direct. Race quality smooth. New lined gudgeons and pintles. Two coats of fresh VC-17 bottom paint this spring. Barrier coated in 2005/6.
