I just saw the basement clean out thread yesterday with the pot top and realized I was not fast enough!

I am looking for a pop top cover--let me know.

Sam, I have one but it's in very poor shape. I was going to try to clean it up, but it's going to take alot of effort with no guarantee of success.

Once this new cover comes in, if you want, you can have the one I have now. Just pay shipping costs.

But I'll warn you....it's dirty, wrinkly, and the windows are yellowed and nasty. When I acquired it, I thought I could save it, but just have not gotten around to it yet.

it is fun plan to see if I can save it for the cost of shipping! Never know what a little magic cleaning dust can do! ;-)

Okay, when I get this new one in, I'll reuse the box to send it to you. I'll ping you for your info when I'm ready to send it on.

Sam, If you can't save it can I have it? (for the cost of shipping) I'd like to make a pattern off of it and make a new one.

Waterbaby - by the sounds of it you should mae a pattern, then make 10 new ones. Just sayin.

Joe - I was going to ship it in a really big envelope if I can find one the size I am thinking of. The Pop top cover folds up surprisingly small.

Pop-top Cover

Submitted by Ben Allen

Here are some dimensions and photos for the pop top cover. One suggestion that was made was to make it a little larger because the original is hard to stretch and get snapped on.

Me Too

Can you share the pattern?

I would like to make one with zip out windows and screening.

Here's a thought:

Howard is local to me. I can give the top over to Howard. He can make a pattern from it and also provide a second opinion on it's condition for salvage. Howard can then send it and the pattern on to Sam, so Sam will have both.

That'll save one set of shipping charges.

Sam,

Thanks for the link. I had seen this before and Ben did a great job with the measurements. I was planning on trying to use it to make one but it'd be easier if I could use Ben's drawing to start but add in construction details and any adjustments that might be needed. The devil is in the details on a project like this and I'm very talented in choosing the wrong way to do something if there's any ambiguity in the instructions. It'd just be easier if I had an example to look at. I've never actually seen one of these tops in person. Only in pictures.

Oh well. Maybe Howard can come up with a good pattern for all of us.

Yanno guys, I have an uncle with a canvas shop who is looking for work. If I approached him with a group order I could come back wioth a price for you guys. But I would need Joe to be patient enough to wait for for him to copy the pattern.

Nauti - I think the only changes were with grommet placement, but I could be wrong.

I already have snaps on my boat.....mine came with a pop top cover originally. I have the original factory invoice.

I will be very surprised though if they all line up.....

I bought a used cover, and only a couple snaps line up..... If you can get the cover without the snaps installed, is best.

Its very easy to relocate the side of the snap that is in the boat. Just drill and screw. Fill the old holes with epoxy/gelcoat.

I am with Ape-X I would rather buy a cover with no snaps and attach the snaps myself than to relocate the ones on the boat.
I got a used one too and only some of the snaps aligned. Sometime in the future my fix will be this: http://www.landingloop.com/snap-stretcher.htm

Cheers

The tops are not the same. Over the years the tops changed from a little to alot depending on the year. As an example, an '82 cover won't fit properly on an '89 due to changes in the way the tops were manufactured.

If anyone has an enclosure that will fit an '89 and it's in good condition let me know.

That's what I thought. Some of the poptops had bumps on the top, whereas my 89 is smooth. Also, some had grab handles and teak on the front, whereas the later models do not.
