Has anyone considered removing the pop top and fabricating a raised permanent top? Imagine if you will a raised pop top with hard sides, a window on the front and each side and a real door instead of companion boards. Any ideas, complaints, alternatives? Thanks

Easy enough to do with glass and plywood, but harder to make it look good.

There was a thread from 2006 about a C25 on Craigslist that had been modified to include a pilothouse, of sorts. Unfortunately, the pics are no longer available. I suspect it was pretty ugly!

It was pretty ugly, but it might not be so ungainly if you only raised it 6" or so

Ugly and it does interfere with vision forward. The Vang could be unusable if the top is too far forward. We use the cover with windows at the dock for comfort but sailing is compromised with reefing too. $.02

You can get the inspiration from the Jaguar 25 without poptops. They have the cabin slightly raised.

The Jaguar that Tomas posted is essentially a C25 with a few modifications for the European market.

A while back, we had a thread called the ugliest boat or somesuch title. I'm pretty sure that what you described was among the entrants although, it was a poorly done example.

I'm sorry that your first post to the site was met by such negative responses but, the members here are very supportive of one another and don't (ok, rarely ) snipe and bicker as seen on some other sites that will remain nameless here. This is a great source of information about our boats because the members will give honest answers to questions.

Welcome to the forum. Tell us about your boat. Where do you sail her? Why would you want to lift the roof permanently?

I like that raised cabintop on the Jaguar 25. That would be the way to go if you wanted to eliminate the pop-top.

I really like the dodger the Jaguar was carrying in the pictures! I may have to make one that attaches to the forward bow on my Bimini!

I like the idea, I don't have any idea about how you'd approach something like this though. I've only raised the top a few times and never tried to sail with it up, so I don't have any technical insight to offer. Looking at the Jaguar pics, it looks nice, but how much head room would you really gain? Dunno, it it's an interesting thought.

I contemplated a similar mod at one time however my planwas to raise the pop top and fill in the gap with fiberglass panels and ports rather than remove it and start from scratch.
