From my upholstery topic from earlier today, there was some interest in the electrical panels I used in my retrofit. Some of your questions can be answered here http://home.bak.rr.com/edlgs/Elec%20panel.htm . If you have further questions, please feel free to ask.

Wow Earl,

Nice job!

Couple of questions:

-Did you make a new panel to replace the one behind the sink? Teak?

-It looks like your Panel is made of teak?

-Based on your research, how many boat units should each panel cost?

-Do you have woodworking equipment...need it to do the work?

Again, nice work.

Jim,
This was one of those projects where if I do "A" that will free up "B" and then I can do "C". For what happened where the panel used to be go here http://home.bak.rr.com/edlgs/Countertop%20page.htm .

The new panel mounting is not made of teak, it's Red Oak from Home Depot with a Rosewood stain followed by 3 coats of a satin urethane.

The panels are Blue Sea Systems part numbers 8068 and 8043 from Sailnet. They had a 10% off sale going when I purchased them bringing the prices to $281 and $152, no sales tax and free shipping. Wire, terminals, heat shink, etc. cost about another $200. The oak, plexiglas, hinges, finishes maybe another $100. (Electrical devices that don't work drive me nuts, so I am willing to pay the price for reliability.)

Tools?....Yea I've got 'em and I used 'em. Table saw, router, jig saw, biscut cutter, roto zip tool, palm sander and cordless drill. It's begining to feel like a "Tool Time" moment! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> More power, more power!

Are you the same Jim Williams that used to race Hobie's in So Cal?

Hey Earl,

Thanks for the tips and pricing.

Nope...too many Jim Williams around I guess. Used to own a Hobie longboard that I bought direct from him in San Clemente in '64. Wow, was I skinny then. Lived in Garden Grove, Surfside, Huntington Beach, Westminister as a kid. This was pre-Hobie cats days.

My cousin ran the Dale Velzy surfboard plant in Costa Mesa when they popped 'em out like pancakes...alas no sail boats tho.

Whodathunk I'd find sailing after age 50!!!
