Depending on when I sell the trailer, I'll need to have the boat gone by then. I'd imagine that getting the keel is going to be a pretty big task and like he said above, I'd certainly bring some lumber to prop it up. I don't know what it weighs exactly but I think it's like 750 or 1000 lbs...heck maybe even more. I haven't checked lately. Also even though it's bolted to the bottom of the boat, it's also fiberglassed in so I'd certainly bring a sawzall or something to get through the fiberglass. Eitherway, I can figure out what size the nuts are that holds it on and I can prob start hitting them with PB blaster to make things easier for you.

Last but not least I'd certianly like to get rid of the whole hull long before November if there is a chance you can move up your arrival time to retrieve the keel. I have to snap some pics of the trailer so I can also get some of the keel as well. It's certainly going to need some refinishing. I'd even recommend taking it all the way down to the metal personally especially if you're going through the trouble of replacing one.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

A guy at our club removed his keel with a chainsaw. Once its off the boat, things are a lot more manageable than you might think. All you need is some sort of ramping arangement and a good winch, assuming you are putting the keel on a low-rise flatbed trailer.

Were I you, I would remove the keel (and anything of value) and get the hull out of your property before winter sets in. If your buyer never shows for the keel, you can still get your money out of it for scrap. If your buyer does show up, they can clean up the FG and whatnot left on the keel when you cut it free.

The cost of getting rid of the hull may take your breath away. Depends on local fees etc. Alternatively call 1-888-just-junk (or whoever your local mini-bin guy is) and get a bin you can saw up the hull and stuff it into. Some of those guys have a price-per bin, rather than a price per tonne.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

A chainsaw certainly would work, I guess the problem is how to get it out from under the boat that's on the trailer without it crashing down. Sounds like some well places 2x4's to prop it.

I'm fully aware that I should strip this boat for all it's worth, but to be honest I'm a little tired of dealing with it. There are a few more things I'm prob going to pull before I send the hull off. To me though the price of scrap isn't worth pulling the keel just for that. I'd much rather let Prospector pull it. If he or anyone else is a no show then the keel goes with the hull when I get rid of it.

Incicently I already have a place that's willing to take the hull for free. Not only are they going to take the hull, but they offered to tow it 45 min away to it's final destination, unload it and then bring me back the trailer all for free. I had a conversation about it last season and all I need to do is call.

In regard to the trailer. The tires are in great shape. One of the axles does indeed have brakes but it appears as though they haven't been hooked up in a while or ever for that matter. Axle bearing appear to be in good shape as well. No work has been done to the trailer since previous pictures.

<br />Might be interested in the stanchions (all six) if they are still available. If possible can you please post some pics? I'm mostly concerned with the condition of the stainless, the length of the tubing, and the angle relative to the deck. Thank you.

All the statchions are still avail and sitting in my basement. The stainless all appears to be in good shape and I can certainly provide pictures. I can measure the length but it might be difficult to measure the exactt angle of the the tubing.

Thank you. When/if you have a minute (no rush) the pictures that most interest me are ones showing the worst condition stanchion(s). To show angle you might shoot a pic of one being held upright with the bottom flush to the floor. I know the C25 deck angle and can extrapolate. Thank you for offering to measure length as well, that would be useful. Finally, if any are bent, dented, scratched, or otherwise deformed I'd be grateful to know.
Thanks again.

Chirs - I don't think I need a keel - I was just suggesting a way to remove it. Whoever was bidding on te keel has dibs as far as I can see.

Oops that was my mistake...I just looked at the wrong name. It's JeanAndre that's looking to buy the keel.

Hi Chris,

Just saw Stinkpotter´s post.
I understand your keel is a wing keel right?

If so, here is what I would like to do I would like to use your trailer to take it to the closest marina, then hoist it, put my truck under it and chainsaw the keel out of it.

Does this work for you?

cheers

Jean

It's no trouble, mix up's happen. Just to confirm, you are no longer interested in the keel correct? Tomorrow my plan is to strip a few more parts off the boat, and start expiditing the disappearance of the hull.

They are just starting to age a little and only the ones that are kept up are going to survive.

I actually just removed it from the boat the other day. It's in great shape. Where are you located? This thing would be tough to ship.

Barb
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

It will take a bit of work to even figure out a shipping price. I would essentially need to make a frame out of 2x4's to bolt it to so that it doesn't get bent in shipping. Not sure if I'd need to completely surround it with 2x4's to prevent damage though. Such a frame would make it a pretty gigantic "package"

I typically price stuff like this stern puplit at 1/2 the cost of new especially since it's in great condition and really a completely static piece with no moving parts to wear out, etc. New from Catalina direct is $400+ so I'd like $200 for it plus shipping. If you're serious about buying this from me I'll go through the trouble of trying to get you a shipping cost.

Let me know.

Edit: Yes swim ladder is sold...I'm shipping that on Monday to it's new owner.
