Frankly, I'm a little concerned that FB use will dilute/diminish the use of this forum and this forum allows for a better exchange of ideas. Plus, FB doesn't have the storage/search potential this forum has.
I don't think FB puts this forum at risk. The discussion threads here are something that FB doesn't handle, for the reasons John mentioned. I'd just recommend that the C25 FB page have links so FB users con find our Association!

Facebook is fine. I find it very useful for keeping up with friends and finding old friends. They're changing over time to guard your privacy better, I'm pretty satisfied with it lately. You just have to understand that anything you do online is not private and post accordingly, whether it be here, with email or facebook type apps.

I ageree that it can be safe, but there is that whole thing about a friend of my enemy is no longer my friend etc. For me it was filtering info off my facebook page via shared acquaintances. No guard on FB is strong enough for that, unless you block everyone, which makes the site a little useless.
Also, its easier to tell your child's grandparents that you just don't do FB than it is to explain why they are blocked from your family's accounts.

Steve, I dont quite remember as the cancel process was very convoluted but I did a google search, "How to Cancel/deactivate Facebook, permanently." Be careful as I learned thru searching that there are two types on cancellations. One cancels but leaves your information on their servers and the other, the one I chose, removes all traces from Facebook. Once you do that, they STILL give you 21 days to change you mind, which means your stuff is still there for the next 21 days after you say to terminate! The spam you mentioned was only one of many reasons I decided to end my account. Good luck.

That's interesting because the email I have for facebook which I've never given out for anything else, has received only facebook email.
As to John's point of FB dilute what is here - If it is done correctly I don't see that as the case. I would imagine that snitz forums already has some kind of add on FB package. When I did some of the web development here they had one for everything else.
Then FB could be tool to drive traffic here, and not the other way around. Additionally, the actual group on FB would need to only post a teaser of the topic with a link to here.
It would take the right management, but could provide large benefit - you could even add back in the google ads, presuming google has fixed the load issues, and derive some $$$$ from people just passing through.
