I just purchased a new steaming/deck light combo from WM. After taking it out of the package I noticed that the halogen bulb for the deck light is fully exposed, ie. no lens cover. Is this the way it's supposed to be ? Took it back to WM they didn't know but offered to order me a different brand ??
A few years ago, I also replaced the Steaming/Deck light combo. I had replaced my mast wiring and the cabin wiring as well as the anchor light with an LED housing (OGM - Orcagreen). I replaced the steaming/deck light with an exact replacement for the existing Aqua Signal combo light which I believe had festoon bulbs. The replacement combo housing had the lens cover as did the original.
After reading the comment regarding the Halogen lasting one year, if you decide you would rather get an exact replacement for the original and if West Marine does not have it in the store, then you may want to check on the web with Aqua Signal to see if they still make the original.
I do not use the steaming or deck light all that much. My install was approximately 3-4 years ago and I have not had to change either bulb in the combo housing yet.
Thinking about this some more, I am not sure if the deck light has a lens on it. If I get a chance after work today, I will stop by my boat and check out the deck light if it really has a lens on the deck light part of the combo housing or not. I thought it did but I just checked out the Aqua Signal website and it is hard to tell if the 25 Model combo light has a lens on the bottom/deck light part of the combo. I am not sure if the sketch is only depicting the reflector housing or it also has a lens on it. Maybe they changed the design ? I hope to check my light out today and if I do, then I will post a response later today. (Got company arriving tonight - So it's a question if I remember.)

I do not have a lens on mine (87) It is the original from Catalina and I originally thought it was missing until I looked at other boats in the Marina with the same light and they didn't have the lens either.
There is no lens. Before you install it put a small bead of electrical silicone grease around the base to help seal the bulb in the outlet. This will delay the corrosion of the bulb and inevitable loss of contact.
I went down to my boat to take a look at the steaming/deck light combo and the answer to if there is a lens over the deck light is.......................................... ...
.. YES !
Is it possible that I was seeing an optical illusion and it was actually the reflector I saw and not a lens...it's a possibility as there was a bright sun partially in my eyes. But it certainly looked like a lens to me. I did not shimmy up the mast to get a better look. If I remember, I could bring my camera with a 12X zoom lens on it and then confirm it. I checked the web as best i could and it certainly seems that the combo light on the web in various websites has no lens except for one website where it seems to show a lens http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_34586_-1?CID=cj& srccode=cii_11138& cpncode=23-104790318-2
I've got an '89 like Larry's and I'm almost positive that mine does not have the lens. I replaced mine about the same time as Larry and (knock on wood) mine was still working as of a couple of weeks ago.

I'm planning on going down to the boat tomorrow and will try to remember to check it out. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
