I would like to add a modest (40mm) cheek block to the boom so that I can route the tack reefing line down, out to the deck organizer and back to the cockpit. The boom cross-section, however, is oval so that the block when mounted will not lie flat against the surface. At most, the block would lie about 1mm from the boom but I'm concerned the leverage in pulling the reefline downward could be significant. How do I mount the cheek block?
There are/were cheeek blocks with a curved base to mount on a curved surface. Check online to see if they are still available. We have one on our C-2 boom.
An easy solution since the offset is small would be to use small flat washers to span the distance.
A more elegant solution would be to fashion a wooden base from teak with a curved side to fit against the boom. A hand held belt sander should do the trick.

When I changed my reefing to single line back to the cockpit, I mounted the tack cheek block on the side of the mast,Where it is flat, Not the boom. I was following the Harken single line system and this is how they mount it. It has worked for me just fine. They recommend that the line be at a 45 deg angle.
I just installed one recently. I found a harken block that only required 2 screws to attach. There is a horizontal line running through the middle of my boom that i thought was convenient. I drilled two holes, lathered the back of the block and self tapping SS screws with 3M 4200, and secured the blocks with the screws. It should take 15 minutes. BTW, don't leave the drill on the deck unsecured; don't ask me how I know
I've got all the hardware to single reef except the line & deck block, I just never reef so haven't run the line. It'd be easy to do, wouldn't cost much, give me another option and add to the value of the boat hhhhmmmmmmmm.
