Has anybody had their headsail re-cut to accomodate the pulpit? Do you remember what it cost? Mine seems to be about 2"-3" to low and drapes over the pulpit when in use.

John,
Just had mine recut in order to refurbish it recently. I had to take off about three feet along the bottom leach. Gromit needed to be moved and area had to be reinforced. It cost me 350.00 from Doyle.

Ours drapes over the pulpit a couple of inches. This is typical. I doubt it has any performance impact.

Try a local canvas or tarp repair place, There not a sail shop, but if you mark on the sail and tell the person what you would like done, I think you'll find thay do a good job at 1/3 the price.
Ya, they say, you get what you pay for, but take the sail down, lay it out, and talk to the person, you mite be surprised!!

John--I assume you mean when you're sailing somewhat off the wind, rather than on a hard beat. That's the design of the sail--it keeps the CE lower while allowing the correct foot angle for furling (so it forms a smooth spiral on the furler instead of a "bunch"). Watch other cruising boats around you--you'll see the same thing with most. What concerns you about it?

It's just the look, Dave. It also would make for an improved visibility from the windward side of the cockpit. I would imagine the same would hold true (regarding CE, furling, etc.) if the tack were higher as long as the same angle (luff/foot) is maintained at the tack. Obviously, the sail area would be reduced somewhat. This is just a mental exercise anyway. Unfortunately, Kaija may have to belong to someone else soon. Unemployment sucks.

After getting sail refurbished I notice that I can now lift it clear of the pulpit. Visibility is increased. Not sure if this is because of the refiguring of the sail or because I yanked on it extra hard when I put it on this year. May you find employment soon!
