I have been gutting the interior of our C-25 and I finally got to the (installed) sewage system and today I found myself asking if this was all really necessary... After pulling apart disgusting hoses, toilet, macerator pump, tank, rusty (hopefully) hose clamps etc... I started to wonder if I really wanted to put it all back in. I read into the portable toilets and wanted to see what people think about them? What are your opinions on the installed toilet/holding tank versus a portable toilet? Storage capacity I assume would be a downside to a portable version, but the simplicity seems well worth it to me. Should I convert?
Inland lake or coastal sailing? Occasional overnighting or long cruises? Depends a lot on how you use the boat, how available pumpout facilities are, etc.
We will be replacing our second C25 head (on our second C25) in the coming weeks. Our motive for doing this is driven by the fact that our marina does not have pump-out facilities.
As we have plans to cruise the North Channel, Canada requires a porta-potti device be connected to a deck pump-out fitting. The MSD version allows you to accomplish this . . . sort of the best of both worlds - not to mention the additonal storage space you gain.
You may want to read a thread I started a few weeks back about securing a porta-potti. It also discusses larger capacity models.
I was looking at the advantages of a semi-portapotty during a previous discussion of larger one like Sealand/Dometic 975 with pumpout capability, but the Admiral said an emphatic no. Be sure that everyone involved is in agreement.
We plan to be all over the place... Cape Cod, Great Lakes, Chesapeake, Florida... I am in the military so we move a lot. Our hope is to do some extended cruising. Extended being 6-8 days at a time.
