Has anyone had any good experiences with selling a sail to one of those used-sail shops? I have a hank-on genoa for a standard 25 rig. I'm sure I could probably get more for it if I sold it myself; however, I haven't really got a clue what it is worth. I now have roller furling, so keeping it doesn't make much sense. Thanks,
The best method to sell it is to sell it here. You say you don't know what it's worth. So what is it worth to you? Very little, as you already ahve another sail. Sell it cheap and let someone like me use it. Dan
I've had pretty good luck selling sails on Craigslist, although admittedly not Catalina sails. My last Hobie 16 sail generated a lot of interest and I eventually sold it to a guy in Texas. However I'd start it on here as suggested.
FWIW I think used sails are worth $100. I have bought and sold several at that price. It is enough money to bother with and a good deal for the buyer so everyone is happy.

I looked at Porpoise Sails' used inventory to get a sense of what used sails are worth. If you do sell to a sail loft you'll get abou 80% of what you can get by selling it yourself, and pay shipping if necessary. Then again it is less of a hassle than posting on Craigslist, Ebay or this site.
I wouldn't call it very nearly new though. Its still crisp, but a little dirty. I also have a blue canvas sail cover for it so it can be left on deck. I will post some pics when I get some extra time.
We also just bought a roller furler, and have 3 headsails to get rid of: 110, 150, and a 170 drifter - all for 25' TR. These sails are all in good to really good condition, and depending on what they end up being worth (I am also trying to figure out), we may just decide to donate them to a good cause.
