I got a quote from the representative from Hong Kong Sail Makers at the Annapolis boat show. Has anyone had any experience with this company? Their prices are even lower than the Rolly Tasker sails sold by National Sail. I am a very casual daysailer / weekend cruiser. As a result, I have very modest performance needs. I just need something better than the original 25 year old sails that I currently have at the lowest possible price.

Also, I've never purchased sails. How is payment / delivery traditionally handled? These folks wanted payment in full with the order with delivery in about 3 weeks. I don't love the idea of paying up front, but if I were a sailmaker, I would not ship unless I had full payment.

I don't know anything about Hong Kong Sail Makers, but I have dealt (very positive experience) with National Sail. If memory serves me correctly, I gave a deposit with the order and paid the balance by credit card when the sail was shipped. Another Rolly Tasker dealer is The Sail Warehouse, had good experience with them also.

Have not had experience with Hong Kong Sail maker -- but - would guess that they are having sails maid in China and the quality will be fine. I have done business with National (Rolly Tasker) and they are excellent. Also have used Ullman/Ventura, whose prices are pretty close to Nationals. I, too, am a casual sailor and would go with the lowest price sail maker/and or Ullman (he really knows Catalina's. Unless you are an avid racer, most provide quality sails.

One mans opinion . . .
