At the end of last season while the boat was in the travel-lift slip my friend fell against the lifeline and the pelican hook came detached from the swagged piece attached to the lifeline cable. I had thought that the swagged piece had slid off the cable. Aftewards we could not find the pelican hook and I think, being slightly flustered, he threw the piece overboard! Without actually re-looking at the damage, I recently ran to Westmarine and purchased a new pelican hook. Come to find that the swagged piece is still attached to the cable, however, not only is the end of same bent but it is a different thread size from the new pelican hook. I don't think they had any diffent size pelicon hooks at the store.
My question: Would it be terrible if I replaced that section with rope line (with appropriate connecting hardware)? What about replacing all of the lifelines with rope lines?(not a job for today, just curious)
I figured I would ask here first before I run off and spend a lot of money with a professional rigger.

When I replaced all the lifelines on my C22 I bought a kit from Catalina Direct. The kit included self-swaging (hand crimp) pelican hooks. I believe these hooks can also be gotten at marine stores. It is not hard to do and the results were excellent.
