OK, so the only connection to sailing is that the crew of Serenity (a Firefly class space ship) refer to her as a boat. Still, if any of you are into a great SciFi adventure go rent the 14 show series of Firefly (4 discs) which was on Fox about 6 years ago. It is a great series. Then watch the 2 hour movie Serenity which was created after the fans of Firefly went berserk after the series was canceled. How they canceled this series is beyond me now that I have seen it. If you like SciFi you will love this crew and their adventures.

Completely concur, how this show went off the air is beyond me as well. Space westerns at their finest.

Rita even likes this show, and she's not big on Sci-fi. A couple of months ago we borrowed the disk set from a friend (well, traded them the complete Stargate SG1 series) so we could watch it again. Ended up watching all the episodes in one rainy day. Then watched Serenity the following evening. A weekend pleasantly wasted.

Continuing off topic, the new series Castle with Firefly captain (Malcolm Reynolds) Nathan Fillian is pretty entertaining so far.

It's nice to know that my wife and I aren't the only Browncoats around.

Firefly was a great show. Definitely one of my favorites (probably 2nd only to the current Battlestar Galactica). The last episode of BSG airs tomorrow; very sad.

I love Sci Fi and I love the new show "Fringe". I absolutely hate Firefly, and all its ilk - space westerns.

My daughter loves this stuff and it's made by the guy that made Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin off Angel, also the newly cancelled Doll House.

My daughter took a Sci Fi class in college. Every single book on her required reading class was available in my private library. David Brin came to guest lecture her class (author of Startide Rising - yes - there is a minor boating connection since the Startide spacecraft is crewed by dolphins.)

Avid sci-fi buff, but firefly was not on my list of greats.

However, if you want the book of all books read Einstein's Bridge by John Cramer.

David, thanks for the tip. That DVD set is going to end up under the Christmas tree.

For those of you who haven't seen the series this is a great way to see it. Netflix has it too. Check it out.

By the way, one of the stars of Firefly (Morena Baccarin who played Inara the escort) is now starring in V as the leader Anna. Another star (Nathan Fillion who played the captain Mal) is now the star of Castle. Several other Firefly veterans are also in current shows.

We've seen several of the stars from Firefly on lots of Syfy (used to be Scifi) shows. I think they use a common pool to find these actors from, lots of them are Canadians, and a lot of the shows are filmed in Vancouver, BC. We haven't watched the new V, and probably won't even though we both like Morena Baccarin. We both sort of like Castle, but it's a bit too cutesy.

Funny, I was over at one of my sailing buddies house Sunday and he was playing some of the Fire Fly series and it looks good. I did like Serenity.

In the meantime, I have been really impressed by the 2003 remake of Battle Star Galactica, it is terrific. We are netflix junkies during the winter and we are now on season 3. Give it a shot, you'll like it. SWMBO loves it too.

The newest Star Trek movie was not so good. :(

The geniuses at Fox ran Firefly in the "dead man's slot" on Friday evening. They ran it out of sequence and did not run all the episodes. It never had a chance. Personal opinion: it was too expensive to make. All those extras, the great sets. I mean, when you can make a zillion dollars with 6 people sitting on a couch, why do anything more imaginative. All said:

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...
