Today at 7:45, the shuttle Discovery lifted off at Cape Canaveral headed for the space station. Even though it was not a full-on night launch, the shuttle was still visible by your naked eye. If you has never before seen a shuttle launch, I suggest you get yourself down hear sometime before the program is decommissioned next year, It is a truly awesome experiance, even from 150 miles away.

I watched three launches while going to school in Orlando in the USN, they used to let us out of school to go watch. I have to concur, it's something you really want to see if you can. I almost got a chance to see one land in California at Edwards, but it was too far away for me to get there in time.

I was doing my usual winter in Pensacola last year and decided about 9:00 one night to drive over for the next day's launch. It was incredible! A fellow I was talking to there was from Sarasota; he had come over seven times, and this was his first actual launch. I was pretty lucky.

Wow. I didn't know they had mountains that steep in Florida. I guess the shuttle turned around and headed up after those photos were taken .

I'm in Daytona Beach about 50 miles north of the cape and have seen most of the launches. This one was one of the best. It's a polar orbit shot so it came north and by us. Not a cloud in the sky! About 5 minutes after the takeoff the sound reaches us and gives a very low rumble that shakes windows and can be felt in the ground. The con trail made this beautiful design in the sky where the lower area was affected by the sunset but not the upper area. I'd have great pictures except I accidentally set the f stop for the least exposure instead of the most

I just checked and it looks like the next scheduled launch of the space shuttle Endeavor is on May 15. I have always wanted to see one, but it would be a disappointment to drive 900 miles to see it, and have it postponed. I know they can't run on a strict timetable, but, for those of you in the area, is it fair to say that most postponements are only for a day or two?

Ya know Steve, I'm trying to think back and give you an answer but the scenarios differ and these days they're taking NO chances. I guess over all they do go on time or within a 4 day period, but even when you're only traveling a short distance it's a major pain with HUGE traffic. I'd plan a vacation around it so it wasn't a total wash if it didn't go within the time frame.
