My outboard electric supply wire is fed through a hole that was cut into the transom within the 'ding' on the stbd side round-down.

The hole was 'waterproofed' (ha!) with some kind of goop which has got messy in the past 3.5 years and is certainly not keeping the hole dry any more (it's above the water line by about 13")

Any idea what kind of 'goop' would have been used? some kind of mastic/caulk/goop?

I know that someone of this site used plumbing fixture to go thru the transom, but not sure that I could get that done before our trip on new years day.

I just opened the area up (removed the goop) to feed my TV Antenna Cable through the hole so now 3 'wires' are going through that hole, outboard power, solar power and TV antenna

Paul,
You might look into a [url="http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/46515/377%20710/0/cable%20clam/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377%20710&Ne=0&Ntt=cable%20clam&Ntk=Primary%20Search&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=cable%20clam&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=5003&subdeptNum=3&classNum=30"]cable clam connector[/url] that would accommodate all three cables at once as well as providing a mechanical waterproof connection. I used a large one to run my charging cables from our new Tohatsu.

To install it, you need to first freeze the rubber puck to make it easier to drill. Drill slightly undersized (only slightly), using water as a lubricant if necessary. I made a little jig to allow drilling the figure eight necessary to fit the cable to the Tohatu and used an Xacto knife to trim out between the holes. I used a bit of caulk to seal the drill holes. I have used these for three different hull penetrations with no leaks yet.

Not all goops are created equal (-ly).

I might suggest polysulfide caulk to keep water out. The nice thing about polysulfide is that it sticks reasonably well to fiberglass, metal, wood, plastic, etc, so it creates a water-tight seal, unlike silicone that must be mechanically compressed to maintain a seal.

But, it is not a permanent adhesive like polyurethane caulk, which can be quite difficult to remove in the future.

Polysulfide remains flexible for years and can be completely removed with only a bit of elbow grease.
