I don't have a clue what app he was running, but this fall, a fellow at my club was looking at his phone while we were under cover from a storm. I was surprised because he said, it was okay that the really bad cells were going to be passing well north of us. He was looking at the weather in real time. Anybody else think that is amazing??
That's easily done with a cell phone. You can get internet access cheap. I pay $45 a month for 300 anytime, unlimited nights/weekend and limited internet access (can't spend the day on it). Most weather sites have the ability to be connected to by cell phone, I think you sign up on their site. Yes, very neat stuff, I can check the weather (cheaply) while I'm sailing. But the G1 is a lot more than that, it's pretty much like a pc in your pocket.
Dave's right about the G1 only it's like a pc running linux! I have the android (google apps) weather.com on my G1. No maps, but instant weather report of now, 36hour and 10day forecast for any area in the US (not tried it elsewhere)
Now looking at another app for weather, there's probably a bunch of them out there that will overlay the weather on google maps.
The shop savvy app is very cool: Allows me to scan a upc code, then looks up both on the web and local for best price. Very cool. I can access the new tech tip page but I'm in the middle of converting that to an app that others can use too.
