Well I did it...took the plunge...bought a bigger boat. She is a Chinook 34 built buy Yacht Constructors(Cascade) in 1967 in Portland, OR. I found her in Sausalito, CA and am having her trucked home to Portland. I went down this week to do sea trials on San Francisco Bay and get the survey finished. What a blast. With 20 knots or so coming off the headlands under the Golden Gate she put her rail in the water to get her full water line and man can she fly. I've never experienced anything like it. For now the plan will be to keep the Capri light wind days. Hope I can get two slips next to each other and choose which boat to sail according to the wind. Eventually though I will probably be moving to the Admiralty Forum.
If you are interested you can read the story about the Chinook boats at http://www.cramermarine.com/ch34_news.html. I'll attach some pics I took as she was coming out of the water.
Congrats on the new boat, she's very pretty. Looks like she would be very fast once she gets a builds up a bow wave, particularly down wind. I would think the LWL would extend out to something like 30 feet when she builds up speed?
Ever since I read Sailing Alone Around the World; I wonder about the stern overhang because Cptn Slocum was so set against it. What are your thoughts on the overhang? Just curious and very jealous.
Uh oh.... anudder convert. How's the Koolaid? Before long you'll be cruising somewhere... Beautiful.... Seriously... Screw trucking, let me fly out and deliver!
Well, after 6 weeks of "stuck in the boat yard blues" we finally got her home to Hayden Bay Saturday. 16 mile journey from Rocky Point Boat Yard up the Multnomah Channel, into the Willamette and out into the Columbia. After we got under the I-5 bridge the wind came up and we got a chance to shake out the laundry. Still tons of projects to do but at least she is home.
