Is that a 110? I've used my new 110 about half a dozen times so far and am amazed how well it performs. I'm very impressed with how well I can sail to weather under head sail alone.
Very nice Chris, they're a pleasure in lighter winds! I had my 150 out last week-end. Really great in anything less than 15 kts. but I bet a HUGE hand full in 15+.
Agreed Frank, I have used the self tailers for much thinner line (even the furling line). I was wondering if the 150 should use 'lighter' sheets. I figured they should be 70' long (they have to go from the winch, aft to a block on the catbird seat then forwards around the shrouds and mast and then outside to the clew of the sail. Hence wondered if lighter (thinner) should be the way to go.
Paul, our C25s generally use 3/8" sheets, but you should ask about sheet size on the 250 forum. I have sailed 250s and think they also used 3/8" sheets, but don't remember for sure.
Although I was (and am) an avid racer, I never used different genoa sheets for light air. It would be expensive, and would be very rare that they would make much difference, and, even if you put them on, they would become a huge problem if the wind suddenly piped up. I recently raced on a Pearson 32 in extremely light air on the Chesapeake Bay with some very active racers, and they didn't use light air sheets.
I have 3/8" sheets. Anything smaller would be too uncomfortable in my hand and maybe too small for the self-tailers.?. I don't use a shackle in part due to the weight but mostly, it's just as effective to use a cow-hitch and it's lots cheaper.
Interesting. I sailed Thistles on Lake Pymatuning a life time ago. Crewed for a guy, I was the crew, for a fall series. the next morning when I got up I couldn't understand why my legs were so sore! Then I looked at them and they were black and blue from butt to knee. We had a great time!!!!
