In the old days, my business would actually receive these solicitations via the mail! But since you guys are buying new boats, maybe you'll let me buy yours. I'd like for my bank to cut you a check to cover the cost of your boats and I will need you to refund me the extra $25K each when you have a chance. I am going to have your 250's shipped to Algiers where we will use them for our new sailing school but we have to pay the shipper with cash and our bank will only let us write one check per vessel. OK? Good, please give me the account number of your bank, your pin code, and your wife's cup size!
That Ain't nuthin. I just won a lottery AND I'm a long lost heir. All I have to do now is come up with another $5,000 for legal fees (I'll mortgage my house and sell my boat) and I'll be rich rich rich

I am Barrister Tony Bullock a solicitor at law. I am the personal attorney to Mr. Patrick Hart a national of your country, who used to work with Shell Development Company in Lome Togo. Here in after shall be referred to as my client. On the 21st of April 2000, my client, his wife and their only daughter were involved in a car accident along sagbama express road.
All occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost there lives. Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy here to locate any of my clients extended relatives, this has also proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to track his last name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you.
I have contacted you to assist in recovering the fund valued at US$40 million left behind by my client before it gets confisicated or declared unserviceable by the Security Finance Firm where this huge amount were deposited. The said Security Finance Company has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the account confisicated within the next twenty one official working days.
Since I have been unsuccesfull in locating the relatives for over six years now, I seek the consent to present you as the next of kin to the deceased since you have the same last names, so that the proceeds of this account can be paid to you. Therefore, on receipt of your positive response, we shall then discuss the sharing ratio and modalities for transfer.

When i have been bored in the past, i have actually messed with these folks for fun. Now is a great time to get even with your brother-in-law or someone else you have a grievance with. Hook them up! I've been know to provide a ficticious name and info and let them waste their time on it. So many inquiries from somewhere that are ficticious should sound the alarm for someone in banking and these folks will have to stop. it's the people who give real info that keeps them going.
...and unfortunately there are those... I recently saw a local news story on a little old lady who lost a big chunk to them--as if it were something new happening. I've been offered "asking price plus" for three different boats..."
Nearly every big ticket item I've tried to sell on Craigslist gets at least one or two of these. Some are more clever than others, if there's an outside chance that it's legit, I'll just send the standard "this is a cash only transaction, no money orders, cashiers checks, etc". You never hear from them again.
