Meeting called to order 11-13-2007.

Attendance: Jim Stark, Bill, Derek, Mark, Justin

Absent: Kevin Mackenzie

We discussed turn over of web keys so that we could make changes to the Flag and Staff sections, post up coming events on various web pages. This is one area that has not been successfully addressed. (Action passed to the Commodore)

We discussed the number of races we would like to see at the Nationals. Derek was concerned that if there were only going to be three races, out of town boats might not find this appealing enough to travel, of which we all agreed. Bill mentioned that he had already discussed this with the 2008 RCC in Oklahoma and that they agreed that at least five races would be more appealing, possibly required, but weather always has the last card.

We discussed the Mainsheet magazine subscription. Bill mentioned that with the C-22 Association lost their good relationship with Catalina when they dropped the magazine. Mark, Derek, and Justin feel we should offer the option of the subscription. Bill reminds us that we have a fiduciary responsibility to continue to publish C-25/C-250 information in the magazine even if we offer the subscription as an option.

We discussed possibly raising dues. It was suggested that we need to promote more cruising events and dry land off season events, such as get togethers at the major boat shows (i.e. Strictly Sail and the Annapolis Sailboat shows). Since the Strictly Sail Shows are coast to coast, the Midwest, and Canada as well, this will offer ample opportunity for our members to meet share ideas camaraderie and feel like they are getting more from the Association. Therefore, we need funding for these events and the association sponsored cruises as well.

We discussed the process of creating a fleet. Fleets must have 3 Catalina Association Members who have voting rights to serve as Fleet Captain, Treasurer and Secretary in order to become an official fleet. We as officers can then give approval by unanimous vote and we should do everything we can to help and encourage the forming of new fleets. As the demographics of our boat populations change, we should encourage membership, support, and make this known to all members that they don't have to rely only on the Association as their only support group. They can in fact form their own fleets which will lead them to much more participation in fun local activities.

Next month’s agenda will further discuss raising the dues to cover increased costs and/or providing options for membership.

Capri 25 trophy prizes range from $75-250. Bill found on Catalinadirect.com they have the Catalina 25 half hulls. Jim will contact Catalina Direct to find out if their supplier has Capri 25 half hulls.

Bill mentioned that the Catalina 22 Association wants us to go with them and host a joint nationals in San Francisco. He requested to place a survey on the forum to find the opinion of members. The survey question now appears on the web and we have had some good answers to the questions.

The meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday December 11, 2007.

Just as an FYI to the officers Somewhere on the Server there should be a fleet creation/development guide created by Don Peet with al the rules and regs already written down.

Sounds like you guys are off to a great start. For what it's worth: I love the idea of get togethers at various boat shows. Also I would prefer paying a bit more on dues that include the Mainsheet knowing that our association is working closely with Catalina, especially as our fleet ages.

Thank you all for your dedication and efforts.

Peter

I like the ideas of land get togethers, like the sailboat shows. I go the Annapolis almost every year. It would also be nice to do something in the middle of the winter for all of us in the Midwest.

I also like the idea of cruises. Post them well enough in advance so we can plan. Most of the invites I get, are less than a month's notice and I already have other plans.

Keep the Mainsheet subscriptions, increase dues if neccessary.

As this seems to be turning into an opinion poll of sorts...I say keep the Mainsheet subscriptions, increase dues if neccessary.

I don't have a vote anymore, but I would recommend raising dues modestly - a buck or two. Then working on the quality of what the association contributes to the Mainsheet. In doing so you up the value of the magazine relative to the members. Push for features and submit them. Carve tech tips out of old web page tech tips if there aren't any new to submit.

Keep the magazine - for now
