Looking fro some help from the owners that sail on Canandaigua Lake. The Force 5 NAs are going to be there in June 2008 and I am hoping to attend. I would also like to bring my C25 and stay the week. I was wondering if there is any available docks that I could rent for the week or what other options may be available.

Chris,

A few options. Bistol Harbour resort has a private marina for guests and owners. They have a hotel and also rent condos and houses. Community includes golf, pool, each, restaurant, tennis, etc. It is a swell place to stay and your boat would be handy as well.

I myself have rented a mooring ball from German Brothers Marina for a two week stint. They are good people but have sold the property to developers. I think they will still be in operation for next year though.

There are a few marinas at the north end of the lake right there in town - I think that is mostly seasonal stuff though. Canandaigua has no navigatable outlet so reciprocating privileges is not something the locals get into.

Hey Chris,

The Force 5 North Americans are being held at my club, Canandaigua Yacht Club (www.sailcyc.com). We do not have docks but I can pretty much assure you of being able to pick up a mooring ball for the week. We had openings this year so it is very likely you can get on with us next year. You can sleep on the boat or camp behind the clubhouse. Showers and restrooms are available at the clubhouse and there is a head at the waterfront. We have a ramp and two lifts but the lifts are not big enough for the Cat 25. If you need a lift to get in German Brothers can do that and you could sail about a mile north to CYC. I sometimes tie up at the dock overnight and just get out on the ball before people show up in the morning and need the lifts and dock space.

We do not have a launch service, but if you want I could likely line up a dingy for you to borrow during your stay. If you email me I can put you in touch with our Rear Commodore who would handle such assignments. Our annual meeting is Sunday so that position may change with elections and such. We have GO fleet racing on Wednesday nights and club racing on Sunday. During the NA's we may skip the Sunday racing but Wednesday GO fleet should go on. It would be great to have another Cat 25 out there (usually have 2-4).

Looks like a good Force 5 race, one of the contacts for it is a former Sunfish World Champion, so he knows how to put together a quality regatta.

Glad to help get you suitable arrangements.

George

George,

I've been window shopping C25's for a couple of years now looking for the perfect boat / circumstances. There was an '89 down at CYC called "The Main Event" which was the nicest C25 I've seen to date. Very well taken care of.

The For Sale page at CYC has not been updated in a few years now. It lists several C25's but I think most have already moved. Can you give the web guy a nudge?

John

Thanks for the heads up. There are some unserved areas there from time to time. "Main Attraction" is a fine boat, sadly the new owner does not race...yet. Keep an eye out for "Top Cat," if the owner finds a nice J-24 then she will be for sale.

Boats come out Saturday so all the Catalinas camp on Catalina row for the winter.

George,

Thanks for all the help. I am hoping to drive over one weekend in the spring to check out the lake and see what I can do. I will let you know when I am coming out. I am really looking forward to next year's event. We are trying to rebuild Force 5 racing in the midwest and I am heading up the charge.

Chris or any others, let me know if you are coming to Canandaigua, NY for our Force 5 NA's. Bring your Cat 25 if you wish, I can help make arrangements with our Rear Commodore.

It should be a good race, hopefully the weather and wind cooperate.

We do have an active GO Fleet racing on Wednesday nights with most sailors retiring to the club for dinner and drinks.
