I am looking for feedback to see if anyone really likes the Cockpit Cushions that come with the C-25 or other boats. Mine got caught out in the rain and I ended up with 2-100 lbs sponges. I also find them to move around when trying to move about in the boat. So tell me Love Them or Hate Them.

I am not thrilled with the cushions. Not sure if they were always so soft but I would think a more firmer cushion would be better. I know that some have responded in the past with not replacing with full length cushions but going with a few individual ones to use where and when needed. I am going to live with the existing ones for now.

I really like the ones that came with my C-25. They are most likely the originals. They make sailing more comfortable, especially when you're sailing all day. The only downside I find is that when heeling quite a bit, they slide off if you get up like you mentioned. I remember sailing on a friends C-25 without them and you get a little sore sitting on hard fiberglass for hours. They are great for when relaxing at anchor, just lay back against the bulkhead and stretch out. To me, the positives really out weigh the negatives. I guess if the boat didn't come with them, well another big negative would be how costly they are for a new set ($345-521 depending on which you choose at CD).

I don't use mine to often because I'm only out for a few hours usually but I believe that they are original and are waterproof. They also have snaps so don't slide around if you take the time to attach them. They're firm and comfortable and I like them a lot.

To keep the cushions in place, go to Walmart and buy some good shelf grip liner to place between the cushion and seat. You don't need to put this stuff along the entire cockpit seat, just put a square of it under the center of the cushion. I keep several squares laying about to keep cushions, seats,...etc in place. I used to put it under the interior carpeting to keep it from slipping too.

Thanks for the great idea Don! I definitely always use mine because I sail all day, typically 5-6 hours of actual sailing, then sometimes relaxing at anchor in addition to that.

The original open foam are cumbersome and as you found out, a pain if they get wet. When wet I take the covers off to dry them out. I use two Suncast Dock boxes, bought at Target and Lowes. The cushions wrap around one short side and one long side inside the box, that is where I keep them, I only bring them out for daysails with company or rafting parties. Some have discovered the cushions to very large coolers work well and a far cheaper than marine cushions; I have considered buying some of those. Of course throwable cushions are also a possibility, but as mentioned above, it is all about keeping any of them in place in decent wind.
Speaking of wind, we had a gear buster yesterday! The hawk isn't out yet today but it is supposed to blow 25-40 most of the day.

None on Wind Dancer's PO's got cushions so I have accumulated four of the throwable Type-4 cushions. We can sit on them lean against them and throw them in a MOB situation (never had to do this thankfully). They work fine it seems to me.

We like our full length ones in general, but have to agree they're a bit thin for sitting on for long periods. I've taken to sitting on top of a type IV throwable, on top of the cushions, which seems to work pretty well. My butt still gets tired after a while, but if it's reasonably calm I'll simply stand for 10-15 minutes to stretch out. Not so easy to do if you're heeling.

If we were in the position of having to buy them, I think I might go with the a handful of type IVs to sit on, which is what I did on my San Juan 21 for six years.

I used mine once in 1992 and they looked great, tan naugahide covered to match the furler cover the dodger cover, and the mainsail cover...the guests were impressed with the decor coordinated canvas...then I put them in the garage loft and never used them again...If I ever sell this boat they will impress the potential buyer, maybe.

We are more "cruisers" than anything else and we always have the cushions out on our boat. And, it is difficult to put them away if it starts raining so they tend to always be damp, if not completely soakes. Beyond that, one side has always been curled and won't sit right, even after we got the boat only two years old.

My wife finally got fed up.

We received our new BottomSiders about a month ago. They are awesome. The vinyl coating on them won't slide, they won't soak up water and are much more firm than the originals.

The downside ??? They are EXPENSIVE. The two main cushions and two stern seat cushions were over 8 boat bucks.

About 5-10 years ago, somebody came out with a closed cell seat cushion, available in several colors and lengths. Still have and use them. Sorry, I can't remember the mfgr. name. I'll see if I can find it tonight. We bought 2 in gray for our C-22 and they nicely cover the seat from the cabin to the seat hatch. Being closed cell foam, they don't absorb water and they float. Also, they were very inexpensive. Does anyone know if they are still available, and where?

They are called C-Cushions. I got a pair and they are brilliant. They're quite firm but much better for longer sails.

Also they don't absorb any water!

Cheers Jonathan

I found a "Go anywhere" seat at a marina garage sale. Looks like new and it only cost $20. I use only that when I'm alone. I use it in conjunction with the originals when there's a crowd. Before I got it, I used to fold the bench cover so that it rested against the Catbird stanchion. I agree, the standard cushions are too dern thin for my skinny little...... well ok, not so skinny....

I gave my wife one of those "go Anywhere" seats for Christmas. I'm thinking of getting another one for myself.

I've got full length cushions that match the gel-coat.
I like them, and use them everytime I sail. I don't have any issues with them sliding around. The dog likes them.
I've had many very satisfying naps on them.

The "Go-anywhere" cushions from West Marine are great for a C25.
Two of them will fit perfectly length-wise on cockpit lazarette
seats, or fold up for reclining as in TP's photos. Also, they
are comfortable enough for sleeping, should you so desire. We
love ours, unfortuately, we sold our C25. Watch WM flyers,
as the cushions are frequently on sale.

Found another "Go Anywhere" seat, on sale at WM for $39.95. Luckily, they had one more in green like the one I gave the admiral for Christmas. I was told they are discontinuing the smaller size. The new style is a bit larger and has a built-in head cushion.
