When working on the trailer disc brakes project I decided to change over the Equalizer Hitch setup from the special pole mount setup to the more basic setup. Like others, I went the special pole mount route because the Equalizer documentation was, well, not very helpful. It turn out that you only need the special parts ($105) if you have an object, such as a jack, in the way. Since I don’t have any obstructions I have abandoned the special hardware and, as Equalizer recommends, gone to the simpler setup. Here is what it looks like:
The only trick to this is that you must have a nut that is much thinner than normal. I lucked out in that a local hardware store had just the thing! Here is a comparison of the new nut, on the bolt, and a regular nut. Now I will use a Dremel to carve the bolt off right at the nut. This will then allow the Equalizer arms to fit in the slot.
I like this simpler setup much more. If anyone wants my old special adapter let me know. Also, if you decide to convert over and can’t find the special nuts let me know. I’d be happy top get them and send them to you.
Special thanks to Michael Navarro who sent me info and photos from Equalizer.

Randy, Do you have any pictures of your old setup. I have a neighbor who has the weight distribution unit and sway unit for the vehicle side that is made by Draw-tite.
