Oh... the list never ends. After seeing Paul's wash down pump in action during our Pensacola trip, knew I had to have one. I looked around a few days and found this Johnson Aquajet 5GPM, 70PSI kit on sale at BW for 129.

Question for those who have already installed a wash down pump.

My plan is to install it in the starboard side locker close to the sink. My thoughts were to put a "Tee" in the fresh water line before it reaches the galley sink for the water source. Will this cause a problem by sucking air from the galley hand pump? Do I need to install a shut off valve between the wash down pump and the galley hand pump to prevent the possibility of sucking air?

ideas?

Tom,
I have mine inline with the galley sink and have not had any issues sucking air. It is definately a useful addition. I love being able to empty the water tank! I also use it to flush the outboard while in the water. That looks like a decent kit for a fair price.

Tom.

I don't know for sure if the wash-down pump will suck air form the galley, but when I hooked up my marine head to the fresh water system it would not pull water from the tank without the valve shut that goes to the sink. I put the valve in initially so when I pressure filled the water tanks it would not blow by the galley faucet and fill the boat along with the water tanks. Glad I did now so my head functions properly.

Get out the hair dryer and shut down the computer! Warm it up and let it sit for awhile. I believe you have a laptop - right?

Took the keyboard apart and the water evidently dissolved a few short sections of traces (turning them black).

This cheap keyboard replacement that I bought for occasional use with the lap top isn't cutting it... too many keys not in right place.

The keyboard that was damaged was a very nice logitech on my desktop computer. A visit to Best Buy today didn't produce a replacement... with expensive wireless being their offerings.

So... I've robbed this cheepy keyboard that I use in conjunction with a full size monitor with the lap top. That computer is not used often.

A visit tomorrow to a computer supply should solve the problem.

Arlyn, being one that is on the keyboard for about 9+ hours a day (programming websites) I switched to the ergonomic type of keyboard (where it is semi split with the keys turned to allow the wrist better alingment when on the home keys.

It resulted in a complete extinction of growing carple tunnel syndrome. I followed that with a track ball mouse (thumb ball) as it allows almost complete relaxation of the mouse hand (I have only seen righthanded models)

I replace the keyboard about every 6 -10 months, just to freshen it up

I put a stern shower in and used this pump .
It was a easy install bolt it down and power .
Its a 4 gallon a minute pump and that's just too much pressure for a shower , so I am going to add a water regulator .
but the location works pretty good for access .
It should be plenty for a washdown .
Id like to add a quik connect hose in the anchor locker

Sean,
I had not thought of mounting the pump under the aft berth, seems like a good spot. Couple questions, looks like you plumbed your intake water from the head sink? Is that your discharge hose looping around to the port side? Where did you mount the shower?

Sean, way cool! I wonder if you could draw from both the pot and the water tank for a prolonged shower? Mix the hot and cold.

Nice setup. I have the flux compass in that area. I wonder if putting a pump there would impact the compass?

Sean, I saw a boat with that shower fitting, very cool.
They mounted theirs on the round-down port side so that it could be used at the swim ladder.

Love your hot water setup...

I cant believe there is no propane water heaters out there everything is either electric or uses the motor . Colman has a portable water heater that uses a 1 pound can .I would rather have things ready to go . The less setup the better .

We dont use the hot water that much , but the shower is great .Still fine tuneing the pressure is to strong so were waitin on a water regulator to come in I found one for $49 .

Tom ,
I gave it a shot because it wasnt that much extra money , you need a T fitting and a ball valve and water line .

The hole project was pump 225
shower kit 100
water line
and all the fitings to put it together

Randy,
It should be fine with the compass (just a guess)
when you use the shower your either anchored or a quik cool down while your sailing .
so a little interferince for a couple of minutes should not be a big deal .

I have a tv antena off the stern seat with a gps antena right next to it .
I finaly thought of shuting the gps off see what happens , no more static on the tv

What about the Zodi unit - seems like this might work using the burner in the galley and be good for a shower...

We saw a water heater running off a -BQ propane tank (the $3.00 type) at the miami boat show, it was a complete shower unit, the gas powered the pump. Wouldn't wash the scales of a rotten fish, but plenty of presure to shower with. No luck yet finding a link to it... will keep looking.

I was thinking a built-in unit , That could be in the boat and exausted outside .
Like a home gas , heat on demand unit . except LP

motor heated water only works after the motor does ,
and electric when a generator is running or shore power.

so a LP unit would be quiet and small should be pretty efficient

Im just thinking out loud .

Propane would not be my ideal thing to heat water. If you used your sun-shower, you could heat the water for free. Pump it with the pump to a real shower, and refill it from the ships water for the next day.

atgep, Tom, I agree, although there are suitable slim low energy LP water heaters, we really don't use enough 'hot' water to make it worth while.

From what Tom (potter) told us at the BEER cruise, the water in the SunShower reached 140d. I guess it would not be so tough to 'T' the sunshower into the 'shower' line with a venturi to warm up the 'cold' water.

But then again, on board JD, we use the wash down pump to shower off after being overboard (swim/snorkel) and then the cool water is welcome. And when we are getting to go visit and need to put on our dancing gear, then the cool shower is good too. There are some benefits to sailing in south florida

I finished up the pump installation this morning. Also got the 26 gallon water bladder I got from Paul (britnusa) installed. I now have 38 gallons of fresh water. Wish I would have had this on the BEER cruise. I had to get water from Paul on the trip (we ran out). Guess Paul felt sorry for me and offered me a great deal on his extra water bladder. (thanks again Paul)

Installed the deck water outlet back by the motor, out of the way. After filling the tanks I put the hose on and fired up the pump.

NICE!
