On my C-25 I upgraded to the CD stem head fitting. I think I might have an issue in that the forestay pin (actually a Harken pin for the furler) is the right size for the rigging screw, but is far too small for the stem head hole. What tends to happen under tension is that the pin ends up on an angle rather that being straight. Occasionally as a result of this the Harken furler tangs pop off as one end of the pin is 'lower' than the other.
What I was thinking was to get a bigger jaw fitting for the turnbuckle so I can use a bigger pin. Has anyone else encountered the same issue and if so what have they done?
I am concerned that with the pin on an angle it is subjected to an unequal load.
On my boat I was dealing with a simmilar issue. I wound up using a grade 8 stanless bolt instead of a pin. I believe it is 5/16. It handles the torsion from the furler a lot better that a pin and cotter key. Been using it now for 2 years.
