I just replaced my old, original sails (twenty years old). The old genoa is RF155 with brown sunbrella that is among other things very dirty. The leach line is gone, stitching is in need of repair on sunbrella and the window is useless. The main has one batten pocket that needs some work, but other than dirty, decent shape.
My question (s) to you all is (are): what should I do with them? Should I sell them? What are they worth? What about the hull numbers? Should I try to sell them on the Swap Meet or to a sail loft? Or should I keep them as back ups (I'm a lake sailor, not depending on them for life) or for the integrity of the boat when I sell her someday?
Minor stuff, I know, but those boat units add up! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Some ideas: Post them and see if anyone bites? Donate them to a kids program that might need them. Try and sell them to a used loft. Use them as tarps in the winter or for painting. Take them to a sailmaker to get duffel bags made. Keep them as backups, give them to a nautical themed bar as decor.
Thanks, some great ideas. I've thought about hanging in my office and if they are not really worth that much, then I might as well use them in this manner. I live in a converted warehouse loft with 20 foot ceilings. Put in a reef and I could hang on one of my walls!

I made crude repairs to my old sails and use the old jib for light air racing, because it has a fuller shape than my new jib. Also, I will use the old sails for cruising, so I won't have to worry about my new sails getting dirty, or put away wet, etc.
A C-27 sailor at my lake recently blew out his mainsail, and I offered to loan him my old mainsail. It could keep him sailing until he can get a new sail, and it wouldn't kill me if my old sail gets damaged in the process. It isn't worth that much. If they aren't marketable, keep them, and maybe you can help someone else at no cost.
You might be surprised what someone will pay for an old sail. I sold my 20 year old Catalina 27 main for $150.00 on the BoatUS auction web site. The new owner was really pleased with it!
