Has anyone replaced the opening port in the head? Any particular issues to look out for. I'm anxious because it's bedded in the lexan window rather than in the fiberglass decking. Anybody know any good tricks?

John, there should be quite a few threads on this topic. Arlyn had quite a thorough one. From what I remember you do not want to pry the Port out but rather cut the bond with something flat and sharp and work it all the way around it.
The Prior PO (PO once removed)tried to close it with some kind of insert in place. That caused the hinges to break. No, it doesn't leak but, it also doesn't function. The PO bought the replacement port but sold it to me before he got a round tuit.
Did a search Roger but struck out but I'll try again.
John, I had the same problem. The PO left me with broken hinges (except I didn't know it at the time). I replaced the port. I believe the original was bedded with 5200. I used a cheap steak knife to cut the sealent. The knife had a thin flexible blade so I could get it behind the frame of the port. And yes, it took a while.
I have heard others suggest using a piano wire - tie some sort of handles to each end and work it around behind the port frame.
I couldn't find it either...the Archives don't go back very far. If you send an E-Mail direct to Arlyn I know he covered it somewhere. Bubba has the right tack.
Oscar's right. I forgot about the solvent, but I filed it away thinking someday I'd need to know. Here's the link: http://www.marineformula.com/ Have fun!
Steve... I don't recall the filler insert being hard to remove. I made the same mistake as numerous others and installed the screen not knowing there was a filler insert that had to be removed if using the screen and of course the result was broken hinges.
Beckson should insert a note with the screen telling about the filler piece needing removed if the screen is installed, perhaps they do now... I and others have raised this issue to Catalina.
