Garelick recommends AGAINST it--I asked them. I suspect the flat aluminum bars are not stiff enough, whereas the 7090's (and Fulton 1810-1820's) cast U-channels are much stronger.

I bought a Garelick #71090 and have used it. I had it mounted for me because I didn't want to deal with the possible issues. They did a good job, although it is mounted quite low on the stbrd side. It also is pretty stiff when lowering the motor and raising it back out of the water (hoping that will ease a little with use). I have a 2002 Honda 9.9 mounted on it. When I talked to Garelick, they did not recommend the 71044 anymore. I can send you pictures if you are interested.
Get the motor mount from CD - it's just as cheap as the Garelick and comes with a predrilled alum. backing plate with a white poly plate that fits on top (or behind, depending on how you look at it). I just installed it for my 9HP Honda 4S this weekend without too much hassle but will advise that you have nimble fingers, socket wrenches, extra nuts, and a reliable drill handy. :)

If not, lithium grease or dry (teflon) lube will help after it's had a chance to work into the bushings.

Is the motor mount from CD adequate for a 4 stroke engine? I have the impression from the catalog that it is a replacement for the original bracket not an upgrade. It seems to be for a 2 stroke even with the new backing plate. It's diminsions etc. are identical to my oringinal bracket with the exception of the adding the steel plate. Otherwise, it would seem that all we would need to do is add the new steel backing plate and a new pad. Some how that seems much too simple.
Dave Bristle you are the definite guru for this topic, what is your opinion?
I think I have been convinced that the bracket to buy is the Futon MB1810 that Dave has suggested - however, now I can't find a dealer to get it from??
This is really getting frustrating.
Any help will be appreciated. Thnkas for the input thus far
