How's everyone doing up North (NY - Long island, Connecticut, etc) ?

Right now in the Washington, DC- Potomac area, the rains have passed but the winds came into town last night with estimates up above 50mph. I went down to the boat while it was raining yesterday but winds had not yet picked up substantially. I just made sure the lines were tight bringing the boat up against the fenders snugly - floating main dock and finger slip. I plan to check the boat after work today but winds not expected to let up until tonight/early Tuesday morning. Maybe they should install jacklines onto the main dock ? Well...all my life preservers are on the boat anyway.

I thought maybe this was part of global warming sort of like in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" but the weather map only shows high winds and no temps going below freezing...with daytime highs in the 50s, warming later in the week toward 60F.

While the frontal passage was pretty uneventful only producing a couple small tornadoes in Florida, the winds yesterday topped out at something like 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. The strongest I've seen this year. Didn't get to the boat yesterday but will definitely check it today. Luckily I'm moored at a private residence where someone keeps an eye on things. I'm ready for summer!!

Remember Donna Lange is riding this out somewhere between North Carolina and Bermuda. She was knocked down last night but this morning's log reports her well and in good spirits. She has a drogue out but she reported some problems with it. She might have damaged her windvane. Keep a good thought!

I heard the wind and rain beating against the east side of my place and whistling in the windows all night--it calmed down after about 7am... I haven't been out yet, but can see where the guard rail on the road across the river disappears into the high tide this morning--no traffic over there! I know some coastal neighborhoods in Milford and Darien, CT that are under water right now... I'm happy to have power. Glad Donna's OK--a friend of mine, very experienced, was in the same area in a storm a few years back, helping another guy bring his boat back to CT from Antigua. He won't do that again. (He and his wife are traveling north on the ICW right now--waiting in VA for this to blow over before they head up the Chesapeake.)

were close to darien ct ,they sounded the evacuation sirens last night ,3 hours before high tide.
I think it was 3 to 4 feet above high tide was expected .

I'm in upstate N.Y. about 150 miles north of NYC and 180 miles west of Boston. We have had about two inches of slush and 31/2" of rain added to that since yesterday morning. Barometer is reading 28.80 at 10:00. "Brandy" is setting on the trailer in my driveway covered with slush. Spring and launch is going to be pushed back a few weeks in this area.

So far the storm has given me a new 5 ft deep sink hole where my walkway used to be. Both gates open on the pond and it's still spilling over one bank. A lot of power outages, though obviously not me...yet. Going to be a long day.

Sean, I have a slip on the Great Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondack Mountains, live in Schenectady. The lake was still covered with ice pack Saturday. Previously used my stinkpot on the Hudson River near Albany, toughest waves I've ever been in at times. Big long rollers,
wave height probably 4-6 feet. There are forum members who are familiar with the lower Hudson River ares though....

ya I read somewhere you have to watch out for the ferry captains . I guess its like driving there ,
you better know where you are going .

And I didn't think about the waves wow !
I figured the current was the biggest fight .

Just think that river runs up the Hudson Valley, anytime the wind is out of the south, it has 150 miles to rile up the waves. Also, you don't even want to be close to the wake of the freightors coming up the Hudson to Albany. There are tidal changes as far north as Albany.
I don't remember the current being all that great..
