I went through severe withdrawal at the end of last season and spent a lot of time feeding my sailing addiction by lurking here. It may be weeks before we can launch due to the annual lowering and refilling of Flathead Lake. USGS Flathead Lake Levels
This is a great site with a lot of knowledgeable, friendly people. So here's my small contribution. Thank you all for helping me "survive" the winter.

Hey Dan, How many months can you sail Flathead a year?
I drove past your lake when coming back from Glacier to Jackson WY, where i was living at the time. Very, very nice. And I thought nothing could be prettier than Teton National park, but Glacier blew me away.
Frank, Sailing season is mid May to the end of September. To put in we need the lake to be within a couple of feet of full pool. Last year we (a dozen or so other boat owners) hired a crane and hauled out Oct. 6 last fall. A few stayed in for another week or so but that's about it, the lake level starts dropping and ice begins. The marina owner wants all boats out by mid October also - I forget the exact date last year. Before I purchased Chesapeake I had a Reinell 22 (my first boat) and put it in 04-22-05. It had a shoal draft keel. We have floating docks at our marina and the owner had situated them a few days before. Only a few powerboats were in at that time.
Great photos! Our resevoir here in Eugene just reached enough depth to launch so this weekend we go in! We also need to pull in early October, our lake never freezes but it is used for flood control. Dam<s>n</s> farmers!

Our lake is part of a network of lakes that feed the Ohio river for barge transport. We are not allowed in till May 1st and we have to pull out by October 1st.
