I stopped at Boater's world the other day to pick up a couple of small things. On the checkout counter they were giving away bumper stickers. Picture this: A cruising boat with the Boater's World as it's name on it's side, A guy with his pants down peeing on a sailboat.

Need I say more?

Really, were you surprised? I've purchased a few items (all trailer related) from BW, and have yet to see anything on their website that says they cater to sailors. Looks like a powerboat world to me.

They can HAVE 'em (TAKE 'em, please!). The majority of my $ goes to sailing oriented outfits.

Can I get one of those sticker with a sailor p*ssing on a Jetski???

Frank, if you're thinking about peeing on their front door, just remember, nowadays there are cell phone and security cameras everywhere. I'd hate to see your picture on the 6:00 news. "Hey, I know that guy...that's Frank!"

Isn't this just like the stickers that ford/chevy owners put on their trucks trashing the other brand?

Not a very PC thing for BW to do. Perhaps we should remove them from our links page.

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">I think this is a fine suggestion. Also post on [cs-bb.com/forums/CSBB] (Cruising Sailor Bulletin Board?) Sailing Anarchy, Lat.38(sp?), etc. All of the forums mentioned so far will treat Boaters World less kindly on the average than we would. The more different directions Boaters World receives feedback from, the more likely they are to see the error of their ways. There is so much overlap in the boating supplies purchased for power boats and sailboats, I don't understand how a vendor in a competitive marketplace can see any advantage in alienating a readily identifiable segment of their potential customers.

Immediate retail sales aside, what about political solidarity? As a relatively small segment of most politicians' constituencies, boaters are an easy target for abusive legislation (liveaboard laws, misguided attempts to legislate environmental protection, onerous taxes, zoning restrictions, I could go on, but I hope I'm preaching to the choir here).

For the good of all boaters, these folks need to get their heads out of their.... OK, I'll stop before I get to frothing at the mouth any worse.

Did ya know that Boater's World is owned by Ritz Camera? Think of that the next time you need a new camera.

Ooooh--those are good ones--I'll have to look in and see the reactions... How about Trailorsailor--that probably has the largest audience of all, and probably the most people who might pick up something at BW. I might drop by BW in New London tomorrow to see what's on the counter--never been in there before.

If the decal, like the ones often seen on the back windshields of trucks, shows Calvin of "Calvin and Hobbes", then the sticker's creator--and possibly BW as well--may be liable for copyright infringement. Bill Watterson, who created the comic strip, does not license his characters and I believe he goes after copyright infringement pretty aggressively.

I bought some cam cleats from them off ebay. They don't take PayPal and the shipping was twice the cost of the cleats. I bought two of them and they would not combine shipping. I will never buy from them again.

Well...I am not so thrilled about the cartoon especially with the Boater's World emblem shown on the motorboat. In general, with West Marine, Defender, etc (online and local boat stores) that cater to all boaters, there is far less reason for a sailor to go to Boater's World which caters almost exclusively to motoboaters.

However, I have had occasion to be in a Boater's World store near my daughter's college in North Carolina. There have been times when those students are still sleeping (in the morning hours) and so I sometimes get an early hour to visit the the local Boater's World and West Marine store.

I have bought two products thru Boater's World (one in the store and one online) that I could not buy thru West Marine. First, Boater's World sells one of those little units that reduces moisture in the cabin. It is not a hang and replace unit or one of those that you have to plug into your boat's DC or AC. IT is a rechargeable unit...sort of. You initially plug into the AC outlet at home which heats up the crystals inside the unit releasing all the absorbed moisture. Then you bring it back and hang it in the cabin (near the VBerth) and when the crystals change in color (pink to blue), then it's time to bring it home again and release the contained moisture.

Recently, I purchase a BEP 8 circuit breaker switch panel which is made in New Zealand and one of the few distributors in USA seems to be Boater's World. Since the panel cost more than $100, the shipping charge was waived. Also...they did not charge any tax even though I am aware of at least one Boater's World that is sort of in my area of Virginia. Maybe because the product was shipped from a Maryland center, they charged no tax.

So...not thrilled with the cartoon...but have had good experiences when Boater's World was one of the few to carry the products I wanted....but, in general, it is not a store any of us would be frequening often or at all since it contains no sailboat specific items.

Well, I guess you could say the sticker speaks to the "classiness" of Boaters' World in particular and stinkpotters in general... (Wait a minute--I resemble that remark!)
