We are living on board for an extended period and we value the use of the pop-top while staying in campsites and marinas.
The problem with the pop-top is that we cannot lock the cabin with the pop-top installed.
The open hatch is the back support for the pop-top. My idea is to somehow telescope the hatch cover supporting legs to drop the hatch again allowing the boat to be in a closed and in lockable position This also requires a stainless steel support, instead of the hatch to hold/support the pop-top similar to ss support provided with the pop-top to be installed where the hatch normally holds the back-end of the pop-top up. Any suggestions or ideas??
Thanks in advance

The plan to provide a forward bow seems reasonable and straightforward to me. Should be easy enough to order a piece of stainless with bends for the top giving the width as the critical dimension and leaving the arms long for trimming to fit. Installation of two sockets would be easy.
A few thoughts about a pop top canvas support to allow the 'lid' to be lowered in order to secure the boat.
1. You can secure the boat! Big plus if you are in location and worried.
2. You could leave the lid down and the pop top up and use the lid for storage! it would be a handy dandy shelf *
3. You can leave the pop top up.. saves 5 mins of erection, removal.
4. The canvas along the back of the pop top is supported by the surface of the lid, so wind doesn't affect it with the lid up, but with the lid down, that's a pretty large canvas surface, would it get strained in wind?
5. There might be some logistic challenges to figure out how to have the frame support the canvas in about the same place as the aft edge of the lid.
6. Where will you store the frame?
7. An alternative would be a second top hatch that could be used with the lid up. (same thing, where would you store it?)
I'm looking forward to how this one works out. Looking forward to your travel reports!
By the end of this week I should have pictures and story work outline regarding all modifications including the pop-top conversion. If it works, which I think it will, we have gained, as per your suggestions, a wonderful storage area to boot!
