Has anyone sent their guages back to signet for "Cleaning/adjustment/calibration? and if so how did they find the service/cost etc? I love this forum, its like calling the team over to all work on each others boat!

"The clink of an anchor - chain, the 'Yo-Ho!' of a well time crew, the flapping of huge sails - I love all these sounds."
A few years back, I sent my Signet knotmeter gauge in for service due to an unreadable LCD display. After they checked it out, they called to say it was not worth repairing and offered me a credit towards the purchase of a new one.
I sent both guages in last year. They said one was shot and sold me a new one. About $350. "Fixed" my depth guage for $175. Knots works fine(new) while depth will still not work so I bought a fishfinder and it works great.
Don, Did you buy or get another brand?.. what amount of credit did they offer?.. I like the Signet but am not committed to brand.. Thanks for the response..
A fw years back I called Signet (Navico) about replacing the LED's in my depthguage & knotmeter. They quoted me "at least $75 each" as "they had to be soldered in place and it was a tricky procedure". My friend dissembled the guages and found that they were just "push in" type. I ordered the replacement LED's for about $15 each and fixed them myself!

Alan,
If I remember correctly, they only offered a nominal credit, something like $20-25.00. I opted to buy a different brand because for about the same price as the replacement Signet gauge, I was able to buy a Standard Horizon SL45 gauge and transducer. With the new transducer, I didn't have to worry about the old Signet transducer which was of questionable age.
Going this route, I did have to remove the Signet transducer and patch the hole, but I was able to put the new transducer in a better location. In addition, the new gauge matched my SH depth sounder.
Well we have sent our instrument off to Signet to get a check-up..They have called after having the instrumentt about a week but we have not made contact with each other to get a estimate.., I will keep you updated!
Here is the Almost Final report on the Signet Gauge repair. We sent the gauge off and it was repaired and back to us in Three weeks-No rush "Leprechaun" is in the barn. . After checking it out they called us and stated that the problem was a "Coil pack" that is internal, they gave us an estimate and we decided to have it fixed. Signet cleaned, calibrated and repaired the gauge. Labor was $83.00 and Coil pack was $74.00. This came back with a 90 day warranty which I was told that does not start until spring. Taking the Gauge ooff the boat was easy. We have not re-installed it yet though. We look forward to it working Correctly ..

They work, but the screens are baked from the sun. Derek, can you go into more detail about the LED's and where you got them? Maybe a part number or something.
Jonathan, I replaced them quite a few years ago. If I remember I just ordered the LED's (they knew what part I needed from this). Mine burned out in the Texas sun because the plastic covers (at $14 each!) kept blowing off. I had a sunbrella cover made to snap on grommets around both knotmeter and depth sounder.
