Where can I obtain a replacement rudder for my 25. It has a hull number of 376. I broke it this afternoon while the boat was on the trailer. It broke off clean at the lower fitting. Any help would be appreciated.hhh

Welcome to the forum Mr. Heinze, sorry to hear about your rudder!

Catalina Yachts may still sell replacement rudders for the C25. You may want to contact them first.

Additionally, Catalina Direct (a Catalina dealer specializing in Catalina parts) sells a couple versions of the C25 rudder. I recommend getting the balanced rudder.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your rudder. You might want to go the the swap meet and look for a post about parts for a c25. It is posted by Boatgt. He has a balanced rudder for sail. Cheers.

Here's another vote for the newer, balanced rudder (in case you have any choice). It's like adding power steering to your boat. Your vintage is no issue.

I always tell folks to be sure of your measurements if you are going for a balanced rudder. There are three different sizes made by Catalina. I got this information straight from Catalina when I bought a replacement for mine. I faxed them measurements from my then existing balanced rudder on my 89, and they still sent the wrong one. They paid for shipping a replacement and threw in a new tiller for my trouble.
Sorry you old hands out there for reading this whenever someone asks about a rudder

Hi
My rudder showed signs of failing, delamination etc. I ordered a new one from www.idasailor.com. It is made from some type of plastic and has a lifetime warrenty. The owner was very accomadating the rudder arrived about 3 weeks after I ordered. The boat isn't in the water yet but I beleive several others on the forum have purchased the same rudder and may be able to comment on performance.

Shauneen,
Did you sail much with your stock rudder? Just wanted to get your opinion on the difference between the two. Gary sold his like new idasailor rudder on the swap meet and went back to his previous rudder.

We are working on the boat at home. I don't expect to get it in the water before June but will post a review then.

The balanced rudder is an incredible upgrade; you have to sail with one to believe how much differently the steering feels.

I got mine from Catalina direct several years ago and believe it set me back around $400.

If you do decide to go with the balanced rudder; make sure you tell CD the year and hull number of your boat so you get the right one. I strongly advise you to order it with new pintles already installed so they match up properly to the position of your gudgeons.

I bought a rudder from Ida Sailor. Great product and great service. Rudder feels like it is balanced. In 15 kts and 25 degrees heel it required little pressure to hold the point of sail. Old rudder was a bear in these conditions. I am totally pleased with this rudder. White Duck, '81 FKSR.

I just painted my rudder, it looks like its original equipment. There are a few 'craze' lines on it, in non-critical areas. Can a rudder be expected to last 'forever' if treated properly? My boat is an '81 and I'm wondering if I've gotten more out of it than is normal.
